The Artists of Piata Art Collective
Ngā ringatoi o Piata are a diverse and united group of creative voices, weaving together their whakapapa, stories, and visions through art. Guided by the values of collaboration, cultural connection, and shared mana, these artists stand together as a waka, each contributing their unique taonga to the collective journey.
Through their mahi toi, they honor their tūpuna, nurture creativity, and inspire transformation, carrying forward traditions while forging new pathways. Together, they embody the spirit of “He waka eke noa”, a canoe which we are all in, with no exception.
Welcome to the world of Piata, where art becomes a collective conversation, a celebration of identity, and a powerful expression of community.

My creative practice is grounded in whakapapa, shaped by the whenua of Heretaunga, the ʻenua of Rarotonga. I descend from Ngāti Māhu, Ngāti Hinepare, Ngāi Tūrauwhā, Ngāti Tinomana and more. My mahi reflects the stories, values, and teachings passed down from my tīpuna.
As a Kaitoi Māori, I design and create with purpose. My work draws on both Māori and Cook Islands perspectives, and is rooted in real experiences, of reconnection, of community, of cultural responsibility.
Whether through resource design, artwork, or wānanga, everything I create is a tool, built to serve, to teach, and to strengthen identity. I hold a deep commitment to my role as a Whakapapa Kaitiaki, ensuring our histories, names, and knowledge are retained, protected, and passed on in forms that are clear, useful, and accessible.
This is not abstract. My practice is practical, collaborative, and whānau-focused. It's about creating things our people can use, every day, to connect, learn, and remember who we are.
Tihei mauri ora.
