Ngā Tūpuna is a strategic and chance-based 52-card game that honours Pōhutukawa, the Matariki star connected to remembrance and those who have passed. Designed for whānau (families) and friends, this dynamic game blends strategy, risk, and wairua, as players race to be the first to clear their cards and declare: NGĀ TŪPUNA! (The Ancestors).

Game Features:
🃏 52-card deck (A4 printable).
🪶 4 suits: Ngā Manu (The Birds) | Ruru (Morepork), Pīwakawaka (Fantail), Tūī, Kārearea (New Zealand Falcon).
🌿 4 x Ngā Tūpuna cards | the clean slate.
✨ 8 x Māreikura & Whatukura cards | sacred female and male spiritual beings (2 per suit).
🌫️ Patupaiarehe cards | mystical beings representing surprise opportunities or challenges.

This deck also doubles as a standard card deck to enjoy all card games.

How to Play (Overview):

  • Each player is dealt 6 hand cards + 3 facedown.

  • Choose 3 cards to place face-up on your hidden cards.

  • Take turns clearing the deck and navigating Patupaiarehe twists.

  • When you’ve played your last card, shout NGĀ TŪPUNA to win!
